Innovative concepts to increase the impermeability of linerless printed tank structures made of CFRP.

  • Development of CFRP tanks for cryogenic applications.
  • Development of CFRP high-pressure tanks.

Research aims at increased safety against failure (leakage, bursting, explosion) and decreasing manufacturing costs.

About Mr. Kanngießer

Marco Kanngießer studied mechanical engineering with a focus on aerospace engineering at RWTH Aachen University from 2014 to 2020. During this time he worked for several years as a student assistant in teaching at the Institute of General Mechanics (IAM) and completed an internship at Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg between 2017 and 2018.

During this time he was mainly involved in the investigation of the influence of laser-based surface activation on crack propagation in CFRP adhesive repairs.

Within the scope of his master thesis, he developed an efficient design methodology for the circumferential stiffening of orthotropically stiffened shell structures under axial compressive load using a structural-mechanical substitute model.

Since May 2020 Mr. Kanngießer has been working as a research assistant at the Institute of Structural Mechanics and Lightweight Construction.
